How Do I Optimize My Google Business Listing? Is It One and Done?

Congratulations! You’ve just gained ownership of your Google My Business listing. That’s all that needs to be done, right? Unfortunately, it’s not quite that simple. In order to maximize your visibility across Google products, it is crucial that your Google My Business listing is optimized properly.

To start, add your business service and be as detailed as possible. For example, if you’re an attorney, make sure not to just categorize your business as “legal services,” but instead, specify the type of law you practice, such as a “personal injury attorney.” The next step is to make sure your business information is filled out entirely. This includes business hours, telephone number, your website link, services you offer, appointment links, the year the firm was established, and a firm description.

Now, just because the profile looks complete doesn’t mean it is. In order to maximize your efforts, you should also do the following two ongoing tasks:

Ask for reviews on your Google listing. Reach out to your clients and ask them to leave you a review. Having frequent, recent reviews shows Google that your law firm is active and popular which, in turn, helps with your overall rankings.

Share updates to your profile with Google Posts daily, if you can, but at a minimum once per week. These posts can be created from within your Google My Business account. You can share your latest blog articles, updates to your business or a fun fact. Creating content and gaining increased visibility can lead to more organic clicks to your website which is another factor Google considers when it comes to rankings.
